PROFESSIONAL ACADEMIC SOCIETY INCREASES OPPORTUNITIES AND RESOURCES FOR PART-TIME COLLEGE EDUCATORS

Major Enhancements Assist Part-Time Educators to Differentiate Themselves in Crowded Adjunct Marketplace

CHICAGO, IL. – May 7, 2009 – SoCAFE, The Society of Certified Adjunct Faculty Educators, has announced two major enhancements to its web-based certification program for adjunct instructors in higher education. These include expansion of membership eligibility and addition of a Director of Faculty Resources. Both are in response to a growing need for very high quality adjunct faculty in a shrinking educational marketplace.

The organization is the first in the United States to provide a portable, national credential for adjunct faculty in American colleges and universities.

The first enhancement announced by SoCAFE is expansion of membership eligibility in the society from only those persons holding master’s degrees, to those who have earned a bachelor’s degree.

“We want to recognize, and provide developmental opportunities for, those educators who teach in technical and proprietary schools, online certification programs, and other educational settings who are not currently eligible,” said Dr. Dennis White, co-founder of SoCAFE.

The second enhancement announced by the organization is the addition of David Perrodin as Director of Faculty Resources.

Mr. Perrodin’s career path includes experience as a public school administrator, speech language therapist, and adjunct faculty educator. He is skilled in face-to-face, blended, and online learning formats. He is also the author of the popular BLOG, Adjunct Faculty Toolbox.

He holds a Masters Degree in Educational Administration and a Masters Degree in Speech-Language Pathology. He is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

According to Dr. Rochelle Santopoalo, president and co-founder of SoCAFE, “David brings extensive experience as an educator along with expertise in curriculum development that is both wide and deep. This skill-set has uniquely prepared him to develop user-friendly resources geared to helping other adjuncts meet the daily challenges of teaching.”
