Fundamental to the deployment of an Affordable Learning Solutions (AL$) strategy at your institution, is the effective use of MERLOT services by your community. These MERLOT services include:

1. Open education resources (OERs) such as those that exist in the MERLOT repository (http://www.merlot.org/merlot/materials.htm?sort.property=overallRating)
2. Online courses (http://als.csuprojects.org/free online courses)
3. Digital textbooks (http://als.csuprojects.org/free-etextbooks)
4. Additional online course materials (http://als.csuprojects.org/course_content)
5. Articles from Open Access journals such as MERLOT’s own JOLT (Journal of Online Learning and Teaching (http://jolt.merlot.org/currentissue.html).    

In addition, AL$ encourages the teaching and learning community to:

1.  Create OER’s with authoring tools such as MERLOT Content Builder (http://taste.merlot.org/Programs_and_Projects/ContentBuilder.html)
2.  Deploy customized or commercial instructional web-based applications (e.g., LMS)  that integrate MERLOT functionality through MERLOT’s unique library of web services (http://taste.merlot.org/merlottechnology.html#webservices)

We urge the AL$ MERLOT Campus Support community to contribute comments, ideas, suggestions, etc., that relate to each of these MERLOT OER services and programs.  It will be through your participation that MERLOT will be better able to extend its programs, and provide better support to the entire  MERLOT community.
