Notes from CAPCSD MERLOT audio conference 10/13:
Cathy:
Triage is first stage of peer review process. Specifies high or low priority review.
Editorial board determines if something should be high priority to review.
Three major criteria: 1. Quality of Content (how reliable, valid, up to date, etc); 2. Potential for teaching and learning effectiveness
3. Ease of Use (how easy to navigate, can you follow it? Would student know what to do?)
The intent is to review the really good materials
Next step after getting in good set of materials is to determine which to review first. Higher quality items should be reviewed first using the 3 criteria above.
As ed bd members submit resources/objects, we should indicate review priority
Add comment on triage value so we know which are important to review early
Most ed bds have included resources as well as learning objects. Up to Editorial Board for discipline to decide what to prioritize for inclusion.
At submission, when contribute materials, there is an area for keywords eg, KASA
If someone puts in materials editor can go back in and add keyword
We can also include info on the keywords on our editorial portal
TO DO:
We need to consider how to solicit and use peer reviewers.
We need to determine how we want to use keywords to tag the resources, objects that are submitted. Definite priority expressed by past CAPCSD members was to have the KASA categories searchable. Post ideas to Merlot Voices discussion board before next meeting!
Cathy to send peer review form , triage, etc
Next meeting: Next Week October 20 at 11, PT (1 CT, 2:00 ET)
