Putting Educational Innovations into Practice.

Suggested guidelines for submitting materials to MERLOT for CAPCSD:

I am fine with us submitting resources from others (rather than the original LOEX plan to submit items for which we had intellectual property rights) to our discipline area on MERLOT. Since MERLOT is open source and any MERLOT member will be able to submit, it seems we won't have control of this anyway and it will promote a larger inventory of resources. I do think some guidelines for types of resources we'd like to have submitted will be appropriate as others begin submitting. For now, though, I want to recommend that we set up a process where we contact the author of the site or resource when we (Task Force) include it for our initial submissions, just as a polite way to indicate that we have found value in their materials, and to encourage them to start thinking about submitting other things they may have developed.

It could be a simple email like:

The Council of Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders is developing a site on MERLOT (www.merlot.org), to serve as a repository of links to useful resources to support teaching and learning in CSD (communication sciences and disorders). The CAPCSD MERLOT Task Force is managing the development of this discipline community on MERLOT and is setting up the initial set of resources on the site. Your resource has been included as a useful tool to support teaching and learning in CSD. (You will be receiving an email directly from MERLOT notifying you of this as well).

If you have other resources that you think would be appropriate, we invite you to submit them. Resources can be: web pages, case studies, videos, audio, simulations, etc. You must be a MERLOT member to submit resources, but it takes minimal time and is free to join. Guidelines on submitting resources are attached. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the CAPCSD MERLOT Task Force at capcsdmerlot@gmail.com

Please provide feedback on this.

I like this email, but I must admit I'm concerned about the extra time it will take (since I already have a long list!), particularly since MERLOT will also be sending an email. Is this duplication of effort?
