Biotechnology and Life Sciences Programs in the CSU

As part of the CSU's biotechnology initiative to support workforce development in California, the BIOCOMPASS website provides easy access to a wealth of online resources.

Each of the 23 CSU campuses has the responsibility to respond to regional and state-wide education and workforce needs through a diverse portfolio of programs that range from short courses tailored to employers’ needs to bachelor’s and master’s degree programs. As a result, the CSU partners with the state’s biotechnology employers, life sciences industry associations, workforce investment boards and other public educational systems on a range of projects and programs statewide to address and meet emerging workforce needs. Working with industry partners, CSU faculty have developed high quality, credit-bearing courses and programs that address skill sets and knowledge specific to the life sciences industry.

The list of programs below is curated to address current life sciences industry workforce needs in California. Our partners indicate that professionals with training in project management, quality assurance, regulatory affairs, clinical trials management, clinical laboratory sciences, biomedical device engineering, health IT, and stem cell research are in demand. These jobs track with the "maturation of the biotechnology industry." The CSU courses and programs listed below (and on the left navigation links) have been developed in response to industry input and are designed to help prepare professionals for jobs and careers in this highly regulated, technology industry.

CSU campuses continue to innovate and develop new courses and programs to close the gap between CSU-based learning and life science industry practice. Check back here occasionally to see what is new!
