2011 Summer/Fall GRAPE Camps

Please introduce yourself and tell us a little about yourself. We have a number of people who are doing GRAPE Camp asynchronously and you can communicate with them this way.

Welcome, Linda. I'm sure our Teacher Education Editorial Board will welcome you when you "graduate" from GRAPE Camp. You seem to have a lot of experience in education, so that will be very helpful. Where are you located now? I think I mentioned that I am in Dallas, TX. (Actually, McKinney)

Cathy - nice area - McKinney. I have worked with other instructors in that area. You are right - I almost moved to California for a job at a university until they told me the price of the housing. the teacher who drove me around told me that she lived in a one bedroom apartment and it cost her more than my three bedroom house. Hmmmm....I actually live in the Humble (Atascocita) area of Houston in the northeastern part of Harris County. My children both live here - along with my grandchildren - so I decided to move here after I retired from public education. I retired only because I really wanted to be involved in the future of e-learning. I saw so many students falling through our system and thought that we needed some alternatives for different situations. I believed it in very strongly and found a mentor who let me do that part time in my retirement.

That is wonderful that you are able to do that, Linda. You've got the best of both worlds. Retirement, being around family, and still being involved in elearning.

We're happy to have you, Muntajeeb. You are able to do GRAPE Camp asynchronously, but either listening to the archived session and following the directions for homework or by using the learning material I created. Please let me know if you have any questions.

I think that it is fascinating to have MERLOT in other countries like Chile. Are there any other countries involved? Debbie Busacco

Yes. We also have a partner, MEITAL, in Israel. When Browsing MERLOT you may see a number of materials that have been added and you can't understand what it says, unless you understand Hebrew. We're hoping to add more international partners. We do have a lot of MERLOT Members who are from other countries, too.

Hi Cathy, This is amazing that Merlot is including other countries. I'm looking forward to learning more about this in the months to come. I'm not fluent in another language, although I studied three (3) years of German in college and studied in Germany, but this will encourage me to build back my skill and finally learn Spanish. Well, we have a lot of materials in MERLOT that you can review for re-learning German. :-)
