Do you have a new faculty orientation at your college(s)?  If yes, what does this new faculty orientation/training look like or consist of?

Hey Amanda!  Great question for this community. I know Pueblo CC in CO had some cool things in place.  I'll invite them to the discussion, so they can share a few things they have seen work.

Central Carolina Technical College has a new faculty orientation for full time faculty that introduces faculty to college resources, policies and classroom management. The real work of being a faculty member--curriculum development, advising and so forth--is not addressed in the orientation. The new faculty orientation is a hybrid course. New faculty meet once at the beginning of the course and then all other content and discussion occurs online. There is an experienced DL instructor who moderates the discussion and grades the quizzes for each section of the orientation. The course lasts 12 weeks.

That is a phenomenal foundation Karen.  What does the online meet time look like?  Is that an ongoing support place or a venue for synchronous meetings?  Or do you use both mechanisms?

If the syllabus is loaded to SkillsCommons, we get a link loaded here for others to view.  If it is not on SkillsCommons, would you consider posting it here for us?

The syllabus is not loaded on SkillsCommons but I will ask the instructor if she is willing to share it.

The format is: content + individual research + discussion board. Each module has a quiz. All class meetings except the initial meeting are asynchronous. The instructor facilitates the entire course.

I think it would be super helpful for us to review if she is willing.  Thanks!

Here is an article about the an approach taken at National Louis University in Illinois: Online Orientation. Perhaps they would be willing to share some resources?

Thanks Jenn!  So glad you joined the conversation today.  Thank you for this resource as well.  Do you have a contact there?  If not, I can reach out and see if they have an interest in sharing.
