Here we'll discuss various initiatives libraries can undertake to promote their content and services to faculty in order to reduce the cost of course reading materials.

In the coming weeks and months, I'll be showcasing some of the initiatives we're working on here in Systemwide Digital Library Services. But please feel free to ask questions and share your own experiences with eBooks, learning management systems, and other library related AL$ initiatives on your campus!

Susan Kendal @ San Jose offered up some interesting stats on their library e-book initiative.

They compared required course readings to their library e-books collections, and found significant overlap. By highlighting those resources on their library site, they drove-up their traffic significantly.

Interesting new "Libraries, Patrons, and eBooks" report from Pew Internet Research Center. Looks at broader public library patterns but certainly related trends.

I'm wondering if CourseSmart currently offers or would consider offering copies of textbooks with multiple simultaneous user licenses for purchase by libraries. Does anyone know anything about this (there's nothing on their website) or have contact info for a CourseSmart rep who's familiar with AL$? Thanks!

We've just implemented the Library-Blackboard Link Generator = provides an easy way for instructors to place links to library resources in Blackboard course shells. So far it's working and the faculty who are using it likes it.
