In India, faculty development in higher education has been undertaken at large scale by the University Grants Commission through its academic staff Colleges. But this largely caters to teachers working in government aided colleges and Universities. A big self- financed sector of colleges and private universities is left unattended.Secondly, the updating of the skills and knowledge of tremendously big number of college teachers in India is presently not possible by mere odd less than 100 academic staff colleges. Steep rise in number of colleges and universities in the last 10 years has led to recruitment of sub- standard faculty in self- financed sector due to dearth of employable, experienced and good teachers. Many individual professors are also offering Customized Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs) in India to college clusters. India is presently an big emerging market for high quality FDPs in higher, professional and technical education.
