GRAPE Camp - Summer 2020 Discussions

Our goal is to provide resources that can be used in teaching, so many times people may look for general links, such as the CDC and ANA. These are ones that when we Triage, we will indicate that they will not be reviewed. Hopefully, the ones you found had either no Editor Review or only a few stars on the Editor Review to indicate that it won't be reviewed.

And you're correct about not needing to add comments and ratings to these sites as a faculty member. But many times people are not in the nursing area and will appreciate being able to find these resources here.

So, I hope you keep looking for something to comment on. :-)

Hi, Jamie:

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. After looking at the site, apparently it was free back when originally introduced. Since then, it was approved as a course with a cost. If you read the Peer Review we did in 2009, you could take it for free and then only were charged if you take the test for credit.

I have changed the description to reflect on the fact that there is a charge for it. There is also an indication near the bottom of the Material Detail that it is not free.

This sometimes happens with the resources we have in MERLOT. We do promote free, but it can change. In that case, we depend on Users to point out these instances. Thank you.

Hello, everyone! I hope I'm entering this is the right place!

I'm Beth Case and I'm an Instructional Designer at the University of Louisville. I specialize in making sure that online courses are accessible to students with disabilities.

I also teach adjunct at West Kentucky Community and Technical College where I teach Psychology -- Intro, Developmental, and Psychology of Aging. I've been teaching on and off as an adjunct at various places for the past 28 (gasp!) years.

Fun facts? Hmmm... Well, I started learning fiddle about a year and a half ago. I also used to be a sign language interpreter. I finished my doctorate a couple of years ago at age 51. I'm sure there's more stuff, but I can't think of anything right now!

You actually have expertise on two of our Editorial Boards: either Instructional Technology or Psychology, but you can decide which one when you finish up

And don't worry about being late to finish your doctorate. I was in my 40s. I felt like everyone's mother!

You have a wide variety of talents...when you said fiddle, I assume that is country music, as otherwise wouldn't you call it a violin?

Hi Everyone!

I'm Elizabeth Kuipers. I have lived and worked in Georgia for most of my life. I spent 20 years at Georgia Southwestern State University, then started a K-12 charter school where I served as principal for 2 years. I am now back in the classroom where I belong at Albany State University, an HBCU. Both of these schools are in Southwest Georgia, very rural and poor with lots of first generation college students.

I am what we call in English a "flexible Generalist." At both my institutions, teaching has been the focus, and I teach composition, Women's Studies, World Literature, American Literature, and British Literature. I've even been known to teach an Introduction to World Films class or two.

I'm looking forward to learning lots throughout this process!

We were somewhat neighbors, as I taught at Georgia Southern, southeast Georgia. I've also worked with some of the HBCUs through MERLOT.

You sound as if you are indeed a generalist, which I know will be appreciated by the English Editorial Board.

Hi there,

I'm working through the material asynchronously in the UK. I work at Durham University. I teach Anthropology to International Students at Foundation level and also work with Y1 undergraduates in Anthropology. First experiences of online teaching were this year due to Covid crisis, a steep learning curve for everyone! Next term will be developing an online course and investigating materials and resources to support this.

Welcome. I'm glad we have the asynchronous option for those not here in the US. And Voices helps you at least connect with some of the others.

I can't imagine what this year was like for you with it being introduced to online teaching by COVID. A lot of others are in the same situation. I hope you find a lot of resources in MERLOT to help you out. And don't forget our SMART Search which checks other resources for you.

Good question. You will be learning what to do with it at our session on Tuesday, Jamie. Then you'll be able to submit it and get on with being a MERLOT Peer Reviewer.
